It’s about a young boy named August (Auggie) Pullman who is born with a facial deformity that prevented him from going to a mainstream school until now. He’s about to start 5th grade (so year 6?) and you can only imagine how hard it is being the new kid. The book is mainly from Auggies perspective but some of it is from the other kids in his life such as his sister Via, Jack and Summer. You get a feel of how each person dealt with an event, especially his sister Via; I was quite impressed with the honesty of his sister's POV. Growing up with Auggie wasn't easy. She felt pushed to the side since Auggie was born. Not that she was angry or jealous that he got all the attention, just a little forgotten. Auggies POV was very honest, he was very aware of the way people viewed him and never missed the “freak” comments. His story was heart-breaking but inspiring. It’s an incredible emotional story, which makes you reflect on your views and reactions/behaviour towards others.
Has anyone read the book or watched the movie? What do you think?
