Olive is a smart and beautiful scientist who has a problem. She wants her friend Anh to date her ex without feeling awkward. It was never going to work between them but how does she convince Anh? By pretending to be in a relationship with Adam, a professor most often regarded as an ass. Cue romance and chaos.
The dynamic between Adam and Olive is fun. There is something so endearing about how pretending to be in a relationship develops a situation where they are completely themselves. The academic backdrop feels fresh and different and stops Olive from being the tragic damsel in distress. She is driven, clever and committed which makes her a pretty good match for the demanding Adam.
It's a perfect summer read with classic moments of frustration throughout. You know when you're angry with a character for not saying what they feel, that it's a well-written book
