A big shout out to @thebooksiveloved for posting this on TikTok and for also making me a broke bxtch lol! I Could not escape this book just like the Spanish Love Deception. I kept seeing posts upon posts about it so of course, me being a sucker for romance novels had to buy it.
I did find the two books quite similar. Fake dating, both main characters work/study at the same place, Male leads very hard and serious, hated by most but big softies on the inside. The only difference I would say is that in this book Olive didn’t hate Adam. They didn’t go from enemies to lovers.
As a 3rd year PhD student, Olive doesn’t believe in lasting romantic relationships but her best friend does and that’s why Olive ends up in this sticky situation. Convincing Anh that she is taken and on her way to a happily ever after wasn’t going to be easy. So, like any self-respecting biologist, Olive panics and kisses the first man she sees. That man is none other than Adam Carlsen, a young peng professor and well known douche. Which is why Olive is taken aback when he agrees to keep her charade a secret and be her fake boyfriend.
This is the first book I’ve read in a while that didn’t have an overload of unnecessary sex scenes which was bloody great - the one scene wasn’t cringe or excessive. There was a lot of sexual tension between the two but neither of them made the first move so when this happened it was a “FINALLY” moment!
Overall it was an enjoyable read. If you loved the Spanish Love Deception… you’ll love this. And if anyone has any similar recommendations then please let me know in the comments below 👇
