Etta and Ola are in a stagnant relationship - after years of willing and waiting to get married, Ola always has an excuse but Etta is DONE and over it! Their savings, according to Ola, are just never enough to progress with the future wedding and house, and Etta turns to online gambling for that extra cash.
The author does a great job of portraying how quickly something like this can become detrimental and addictive. I was sucked into this part of the book and over a short amount of time, Etta becomes a slave to the game and gets herself into some really stressful situations, whilst Ola is none the wiser.
Whilst we follow Ettaβs descent into pure and utter chaos, there are a few other storylines thrown into the book and Iβm not sure why they were there to be honest. For example, Windrush is touched upon as though itβs an afterthought plus the whole police drama and relationship exposΓ© at the end seemed a bit forced and overdone.
Overall this was an easy read, but as a fan of Darling, I needed more depth and more credibility of the characters and the plot.
