⁣THIS BOOK! THIS GOD DAMN BOOK! Jennifer why you do this to me?? ⁣

Lol, I don’t know if you guys felt the same way while reading this, or maybe because I watched the film on @Netflixuk before reading so I knew how it was going to end, but I just had this lump in my throat the whole time. ⁣

I couldn’t hold back the tears, I really tried. It was honestly such a great book even though it was totally heartbreaking. One line that totally broke me was “ I am broken. I am a fraud. I am impossible to love.” ⁣

I think this is a reason why I prefer books over films because you can get so much more out of a character. You feel so much for Finch. I just wanted to give him a hug. Books like #Allthebrightplaces and #EleanorOliphantisCompletelyFine really make you wonder how you treat people and that kindness goes a long way. ⁣

Finch, had the shittiest childhood; first seeing his mother get banged up by his father and then for the physical abuse to actually happen to him - I think this is where it all starts to go wrong. He got into fights, they called him a freak. And even when someone good like Violet comes into his life it’s still not enough to fight the demons.⁣

I wrote and spoke to people who had read the book who believed Finch to be selfish but I really don’t think he was. I’m clearly Team Finch if you hadn’t noticed, but he just didn’t have a good support system. The counsellor didn’t do enough to help him or listen, his mother was dealing with her own problems to see that her son was struggling and he couldn’t speak to Violet. He had coping mechanisms to help him get out of his head by going on long drives and running but it just wasn’t enough.⁣

It’s a story of a girl who learns to live from a boy who wants to die.
Theodore Finch wants to take his own life. Violet Markey is devastated by her sister’s death. They meet on the ledge of the school bell tower, and so their story begins. It’s only when they’re together that they can truly be themselves…But as Violet’s world grows, Finch’s begins to shrink. How far will Violet go to save the boy she has come to love?⁣

Soy Tanya. I’m the youngest of the group...and I don’t really know what to say except that I find these things really awkward. When Linda first came to me with this idea of an online bookclub/review page I was 100% down, although I was a little worried and felt like backing out on many occasions as I felt like my reviews were awful - I’m not good with words at all. If anyone was to ask me a year ago how I found a book, I’d reply: “good” - that’s my review done. But being part of this club with such amazing girls has really made me a lot more confident and comfortable. So I’ll forever be grateful. It’s always a laugh when we’re together, we are guaranteed to get side-tracked but our meetings are always productive and a lot of fun. This is just the beginning for us. I like reading all kinds of books from different genres but prefer romance/YA. With work being full on I like feel-good books that are light and easy. I’m currently in the middle of reading a few books lol but sticking to The Zanzibar Wife by Rebecca Rodriquez. Reading for me is a form of escapism, just getting away from the stress of real life and getting lost in book and falling in love with characters. I can’t list my top 5 or even top 10 so here are a few of my all-time favourites: The Sicilian by Mario Puzo To all the boys I’ve loved before by Jenny Han, A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hoseeini, The Forty Rules of Love by Shafa Kelif Child 44 by Tom Rob Smith and Moonlight Over Manhattan by Sarah Morgan.
