What I Talk About When I Talk About Running by Haruki Murakami

Murakami has run one marathon every year since he was 33, so there's probably no one more qualified to write about it than he is. In the beginning his recounts and tales seem like humble-bragging; he lives in Hawaii! He's so fit and healthy! He runs miles every day! But underneath it all you see the same thing you see in his stories, a blunt honesty and beautiful description. Not only did he manage to inspire me to up my running game, he weaves the events of his life between the tales of his marathons across the world, telling a story so interlinked you realise his books and his travels go hand in hand. If you're getting fit for 2017, this is a great alternative read to the "blogger" faux health fad books around right now - back to basics!
