I tried, I really tried to like this book. I had heard good things from some and bad things from others - I am most certainly camped in with the latter. The narrative was slow, language laborious and it never hooked me. To me it felt an exercise in intellectualism rather than a story waiting to be discovered. I persevered for 200 pages and then committed the cardinal sin and gave up - sorry!
