It took me a while to write this review and I'm not sure why considering it's one of my favourite Mario Puzo books. I used to read this book on my way to and from work whilst listening to Merci by Stromae; the two went hand in hand perfectly and took me to a whole other place. This book channels love, gratitude, friendship, bravery and kindness through one man: Turi Giuliano who with his friend Aspanu becomes a bandit to help the poor (kind of like Robin Hood but better!). The book focuses on how Giuliano rose to his legendary status as a bandit and hero to the Sicilian people. Unlike The Godfather, this book has a few characters each beautifully crafted by Puzo. I love how the two books intertwine (see previous post). If you enjoyed The Godfather, then you are bound to love this book.
