The Picture of Dorian Gray By Oscar Wilde

I have not picked up a classic novel since I was at school and so I thought it high time to pick back up with some of the great writers and so I began with Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray. For such a short novel this took me a long time to get through. I felt that the pace of action was interminably slow for the first half of the novel (something I unfortunately find with most Victorian Literature) and didn't truly pick up until the last quarter. The story itself I did really connect to and enjoy and this to me is the reason it is up there with the greats and has stood the test of time. Sadly this is not the book that is going to undo my dislike of Victorian novels personally I will stick to Wilde’s plays as the best examples of his work.
