This book had everything I should have loved - magic, romance, history and intrigue; however, there was something that never quite worked for me. Morgenstern's language is beautiful (and is the saving grace) but the narrative is clunky and jumped around too much for me to keep focussed. It was a great shame as the story that was trying to be told was a fab one, unfortunately it just was never allowed to have space to breathe.
