The Mothers was such a refreshing read to bring in the new year β short and snappy, and hard to put down. Set in a conservative Christian church town in California, I read it in one fell swoop, and I loved how fresh, contemporary and real it felt. You could relate to every character, you understood them in one sentence and became a part of their world and the community so easily. This was why I only gave the book a four; I needed more! Brit Bennett captures so easily the trials and tribulations of a real life and real current issues without dramatic exaggeration, and with understanding, depth and complexity. I canβt wait to read more from her!
