When you read Donna Tartt’s The Goldfinch you are certainly in for the long haul. Having been a fan of Tartt’s previous bestseller, The Secret History, when I saw this had won the Pulitzer Prize I couldn’t wait to read it. Despite its length and heartbreaking content I read this book so quickly; Tartt has an amazing talent to be able to write in such a complex and intricate manner and yet allow you as a reader to follow every twist and turn with ease. This is definitely another tearjerker, just when you think life could not possibly get worse for our protagonist Theo it always, irrevocably does. Despite it being yet another novel that left me weeping at the end I have not stopped banging on about this book since I read it in 2014 and don’t see myself stopping for a while yet, so go and read it – you won’t regret it!
