If youโre after a book with unexpected twists and turns, this is the one for you.
The sophomore novel, written by Candice Williams is rooted in the heart of South London, where absent father of 5 - Cyril Pennington decides to introduce his children to one another (who all have different mothers). Not for the purpose of bonding as siblings, but for his own peace of mind that his children donโt accidentally commit incest.
Cyril Pennington, originating from the parish of Clarendon, Jamaica, creates a life for himself in London, which heavily revolves around women. He has no real stability in his life whatsoever, but the one thing he does take care of, is his prized possession - his Gold Jeep.
The children become aware of one another at a fairly young age however, it isnโt until 10 years later, one of the 5 is involved in a catastrophic event, in which all siblings are forced to re-unite in order to support each other during this time. As a result of this they are finally able to start building a genuine bond with one another as siblings.
Overall I truly enjoyed the distinct personalities of all the siblings, in particular Dimple, the wannabe โinfluencerโ who overshares every detail of her life to her โ200 followersโ.
From what I expected to be a book about bringing a family together, I definitely did not expect to be taken on such a rollercoaster or emotions, covering blackmail, toxic relationships and baby mama drama. Though I found the book to be corny / over dramatic at times, overall it was a beautiful read.
