Set in a small Hawaiian island, Moloka'i takes the reader through beautiful landscapes while addressing a difficult topic in the 1800s; leprosy. The book follows a young girl, Rachel, as she goes through the stages of life in this town. The author does an amazing job of painting a picture of both the setting but more importantly the emotional rollercoaster that Rachel's life entails. This book is fascinating not only because of its historical value but also because it appeals towards human compassion and how at the end of the day we are all looking for love and acceptance.
