Another book that jumps through time, Memphis is the story of three women, a mother and two daughters who flee an abusive husband and father. Spanning 70 years, this is an account of how the relationships between these women evolved but what I did like was how they anchored each other.
There is no doubt that there is a richness to the writing in this novel. It has sights and smells, vivid experiences and enigmatic characters, but I just found it hard to follow.
I don't profess to be any sort of editing expert but had this book been written chronologically in three volumes, I think it would have had far greater impact on me. Itβs an easy read but didnt feel it had the impact I wanted.
