Although fiction, this novel sheds light on true Korean/Japanese history and how women and children suffered at the hands of the Japanese during WWII. Young girls were taken from their families and forced to work as comfort women for the Japanese, otherwise they were brutally abused and humiliated in public, before being killed. This novel tells the powerful and emotional story of one of the women who experienced and survived such cruelness. A must read!
