An intensely powerful and propulsice novel from the acclaimed author of An American Marriage. Kin, is a novel about two girls with absent mothers navigating the dangers and heartbreaks of racially segregated America. Vernice and Annie are ‘cradle friends’, both born in Honeysuckles, Louisianna, both destined to never know their mothers. The girls are inseparable, bound by a friendship far deeper than sisterhood, but as they grow up, their lives start to look very different in the segregated America of the 1950s and 60s.
Tayari Jonesis the author of four novels,includingAmericanMarriage, whichwas an Oprah’s Book Club selection and also appeared on Barack Obama’s summer reading list and his year-end roundup. It won the Women’s Prize for Fiction, the Aspen Words Literary Prize, and an NAACP Image Award and has been published in two dozen countries. Jones is the C.H. Candler Professor of English and Creative Writing at Emory University and lives in Atlanta.
